William Bligh Turnbull was born in 1809. He was the son of John Turnbull and Ann Warr. Some researchers indicate birth in 1808 but his obituary clearly shows 1809.
Severe floods in the Hawkesbury had destroyed many crops. The stream of ships bringing convict labour and supplies to the colony had slowed down. All of these factors affected the lives of pioneer settlers. Things were tough when the new Governor, William Bligh arrived in 1808. One of his first tasks was to provide provisions to support the Hawkesbury settlers. He also promised the goverment would buy the produce when their crops became profitable. John Turnbull was evidently a beneficiary of the apparent benevolence of the new Governor, leading to the naming of his new son "William Bligh" Turnbull. Later generations sometimes named their son 'Bligh'.
Per Sydney Morning Herald 25 October 2015 [1]:
However, no marriage record has yet been found for that year.
William's obituary actually records that he married in February 1838 [2] and this aligns with a marriage in that year at the Presbyterian Church, Portland Head (near Ebenezer) between William Bligh Turnbull and an Elizabeth Wilson[3].
William Bligh Turnbull passed away in 1892. [4]
