Biography

Charles's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1874 in the Sunderland district.[1] He was probably named for his paternal grandfather John Turnbull (bef.1820-abt.1881) and his mother's step father, Charles Lambert (abt.1825-).

In the 1881 census Charles (age 6), Scholar, was the son of William Turnbull on Thomas Street, Sunderland, Durham, England.[2]

In the 1891 census Charles (age 16), Apprentice Boat Builder (employee), was next door from his parents with his maternal grandmother and her husband 21 Thomas Street, Sunderland, County Durham, England.[3]
