Biography

Nancy Turnbow was born in 1822 in Giles Co, TN.

Nancy (age 21) married William Henry Gilbreath (age 22) on 27 February 1844 in Pope Co., AR.^[1]

Nancy and her husband William were part of a wagon train headed by Nancy's brother, Chesley Turnbow, that came to Texas in 1855. They settled on land about six miles south of the present town of Dublin, and near to the place where her brother, Chesley, settled with his family. One child, Houston Gilbreath, was born to them after they came to Texas. Seven years after the family settled on Resley Creek her husband, William Gilbreath, died of typhoid fever on May 2, 1862. The little son, Houston, died of the fever one week later. She added more than 300 acres of land to her property and reared her seven children to be responsible and respected men and women.

After her first husband's death, Nancy married Jones Barbee in March 1870 in Erath County, Texas though they continued to live separately on their farms and visited on Sundays.

Nancy lived until February 13, 1883 and is buried with her husband and many of her descendants at Barbee Cemetery in Erath County.

Nancy was mentioned on a memorial in Barbee Cemetery, Edna Hill, Erath County, Texas, United States with a death date of 13 February 1883.^[2]
