Biography

William was born about 1749 in Bedford County, Virginia. He married Sarah Garnett Foster on 28 July 1763 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Their known children were George, Nancy, John and Zachariah. William passed away in 1801 in Albemarle County, Virginia.

According to Jean Cothran, evidence of this family was found in the court case of Taylor vs Dowell of Albemarle County Circuit Court. It states that George Taylor, son of William Taylor, is also a son of Sarah Garnett Foster, and grandson of John Foster and Averilla Haskew Foster. It also tells us that Sarah died before her mother Averilla Foster. Averilla disappears from Albemarle records between 1782 and 1785, which means that Sarah before that period, leaving George the eldest about 5 or 6 years old and John and Nancy even younger. There was one other child apparently, who did not live to his majority and had a guardian. His name was Zachariah Taylor. The case also tells us that George had an uncle named George Taylor, thereby establishing at least two brothers for William Taylor -- James and George. These people were from Preddy's Creek, Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle County, Virginia.

Marion (Mike) Taylor says that William Taylor "might have been an Indian and/or fought fought Indians. It is possible from what I'm being told that this line may be direct descendants of Zachary Taylor's uncle and/or tied in with 'James the Elder' or a Samuel Taylor."

Taylor-68062 and Taylor-48707 appear to represent the same person because: This is a previously rejected merge request with no explanation. Taylor-68062 and Taylor-48707 are a very good match. Both profiles agree that William Taylor married Sarah Garnett Foster (see Biographies). Please merge or explain why they could not possibly be the same person.

Please provide your sources for this profile. IF I go to Ancestry.com he is attached to 2 different George Taylors, a different Zachary Taylor, and none of those trees have any sources to support the information.
