As a young man, he taught school and worked in the family general store. During the summers, he played baseball in the grand mountain hotels of the time.
Linley and Bessie Helena Johnson met while working at Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. He and Bessie married in Lancaster, New Hampshire in 1916. They lived with his parents in Wolcott for about four years then moved to Lancaster to live with Bessie's mother.
In the early 1920's he became a railway postal clerk and moved his family to Concord, New Hampshire. He regularly traveled from Boston to Montreal. He retired sometime after WWII.
They had eight children, two of whom died in infancy, and fifteen grandchildren.
Linley died in Concord, New Hampshire in February 1965 at the age of 79. He is buried in Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord.
