OBITUARY. MRS. R. FAIRBAIRN. It is with regret that we have to record the death of Mrs. Fairbairn, wife of the Resident Magistrate at Fremantle. Mrs. Fairbairn's decease took place on April 21, after a short illness, the cause of death being ascribed to dysentery. The greatest sympathy is felt at Fremantle and other parts of the colony (to judge from telegrams received) for Mr. Fairbairn.

Mrs. Fairbairn was on many occasions identified with charitable movements in Fremantle and was universally esteemed. Mrs. Fairbairn was the daughter of Mr. P. Taylor, of Albany, who arrived in the colony with Sir James Stirling in 1833. Twenty-one years ago she was married to Mr. Robert Fairbairn, the Resident Magistrate at Fremantle, and the children are a daughter aged 18, and a son aged 16 years.

Recently Mrs. Fairbairn undertook a trip to England with the object principally of placing her children at good schools. Her daughter she placed in a school in Cumberland, and her son at Winchester.

On her return a few months ago Mrs. Fairbairn was in the best of health, and continued so until last Monday week, when she was seized with a slight indisposition. No alarming symptoms were apparent during her preliminary illness ; but after a few days Dr. Hope, who was the first in attendance, called Dr. White to consult, and the case some time later appearing more alarming, Dr. Walter was added to the consultation. In the face of all that medical skill could provide, Mrs. Fairbairn gradually sank and died peacefully on the morning of April 21.

Mrs. Fairbairn, who was 47 years of age, was a sister of Mrs. E. Dempster, of Northam ; Miss Taylor, of Albany ; and Mr. Campbell Taylor, of Thompson's River, eastward of Esperance.

The funeral took place last Friday, and was largely attended. Among those who followed the remains of the deceased lady were the Premier (Sir John Forrest) and Mr. H. C. Prinsep (Under-secretary for Mines), Mr. W. Gale, Mr. J. B. Percy, J.P., and many representatives of various Government departments. . . .

Death of Spouse: 13 Dec 1922, The Pindan, The Esplanade, Peppermint Grove, Cottesloe, Western Australia, Australia
