Biography

Peter was born in 1855 or 1856 - the final digit is unclear due to bad handwriting. He is the son of Peter Swanston and Margaret Clazie.

But his baptism record showed alternate spellings for both himself and his parents: "Swanstone" and "Clazy". ^[1]

He was shown in census records 1861-91 at Ayton, Berwickshire, the name correctly written “Swanston”.

He married Janet Anderson and they had children. After she died in 1887, he appears to have remarried to Agnes Ainslie.

Peter Swanston died at Ayton in 1920 and was buried there.^[2]
