Biography

William Sutherland is a member of Clan Sutherland.

William was born on 26th August 1907 at Forres in Morayshire. He was the son of George Sutherland and Margaret Smith Sutherland. His father was killed in action in 1918. His mother's brother Charles Sutherland bought a house in which he installed Margaret, her children and a niece and nephew.

In 1929 Will moved to Glasgow to begin his career in the newspaper industry. He went into lodgings run by Mrs Agnes Dunlop his future mother-in-law. His elder brother George had previously lodged with her. His younger brother Charles also lodged with her.

On 4th August 1933 he married her daughter Chris at Camlachie towards the east of Glasgow.

William and Chris had two children, a son William known as "Bill" or "Billie" and a daughter Margaret known as "Mag".

He died on 30th October 1988 from the effects of pneumonia and dementia at Culduthel Hospital, Inverness.
