Biography

Alice Smith was born February 2nd 1901 in Parr, St Helens. She was the daughter of Joseph Smith and Alice (Morris) Smith. She was christened on February 24th 1901 at St Peter's Church in Parr (Anglican). Her father's occupation was recorded as miner, and the family's address as Parr.

By March 31st 1901, they were living in Derbyshire Hill Road in Parr. Joseph was working as a colliery ventilation foreman. There were now five children - Joseph (12), John (8), Harriet (3), Henry (2), and baby Alice.

By April 2nd 1911, Joseph and Alice were still in Derbyshire Hill Road, and Joseph was working as a coal hewer, as were their sons Joseph and John.

Alice married Arthur Stanley Painter in 1925 at St Peter's.

Alice's mother Alice died July 19th 1942 at the age of 76 in St Helens.

Arthur died October 14th 1963 in St Helens at the age of 62. Alice died May 29th 1975 at the age of 74. They were buried at St Peter's.
