Henry Smith was born on October 18th 1898 in Parr, St Helens. He was the son of Joseph Smith and Alice (Morris) Smith. He was christened November 16th 1898 at St Peter's Church in Parr (Anglican). His father's occupation was recorded as miner, and the family's address as Parr.
By March 31st 1901, they were living in Derbyshire Hill Road in Parr. Joseph was working as a colliery ventilation foreman. There were now five children - Joseph (12), John (8), Harriet (3), Henry (2), and baby Alice.
By April 2nd 1911, Joseph and Alice were still in Derbyshire Hill Road, and Joseph was working as a coal hewer, as were their sons Joseph and John.
Henry married Elizabeth Hardman on November 22nd 1919 at St Peter's.
Henry was in an accident in the Parr Number 2 colliery on October 25th 1929, owned by Richard Evans & Co, where he was working as a coal getter. There was a fall of stone, and his leg was fractured. He died on December 15th 1929, aged 31, as a result of this injury. His address was given as St Helens.
