Research Note
For birth information, I have provided both a premium source and a free source. The reason for this is the premium source notes the last name of mother whereas the free source does not. The mother's last name was misspelled "Gittins" and her last name had been misspelled a few times in various records.

Second cousin G. Giles provided me with a lot of details regarding the Smith family. Before arriving in New Zealand, the family had copies of register of baptisms for four of their five children possibly as identification for the Nourmahal voyage to New Zealand.
