From the naming pattern of the children known, William may belong to the family of a James and Margaret SINTON, a couple of these names also being assumed to be the parents of Peter SINTON married to Janet DONALDSON.
They would be of an age and their respective descendants did intermarry.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
