Biography

Jeffrey Robertson was born in 1770 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He was the son of Nicholas Robertson and Mary Woolridge.

Jeffrey's father moved the family to the Willis River area of Buckingham County around 1787. Jeffrey appears in personal property tax lists in Buckingham County from 1788-1798. He apparently married in Bedford County in 1792 but his residence was in Buckingham Co. through 1798, at which time he moved permanently to Bedford.

Jeffrey married Nancy Dickerson/Dickenson in 1792 in Bedford County, Virginia. Their known children would include (birth order uncertain):

  1. John J. Robertson, born 21 November 1789, died 15 September 1884 Bedford Co.
  2. Jennett Robertson, born 28 December 1792, died 6 August 1875 Bedford Co.; married Stephen Goggin 26 December 1818 Bedford Co.
  3. Mills Robertson, born 10 April 1796 Bedford Co., died 1851 Bedford Co.
  4. Polly M. Robertson, married Granville Pullen 31 October 1839 Bedford Co.
  5. Martha Robertson, married Mr. Jones
  6. Jeffrey G. (Granville) Robertson, born 1 July 1803, died 15 October 1868 Montgomery Co., MO.
  7. Thomas W. Robertson

He wrote his will in 1856 in Bedford County and died there the same year. His wife, Nancy, had died in 1846. The couple are buried in the Old Dickerson Cemetery in Moneta, Virginia. Jeffrey's tombstone inscription indicates he was a "Capt.".
