Biography

John was born in 1848 or 1849. John's father also had the name John and his mother was Elizabeth (this information was taken from John junior's marriage certificate).

John's place of birth has not been found but it might have been Aberdeen as both John and his wife were living there at the time of their marriage.

On 19 June 1874 John married Elspet Ross at 153 Crown Street, Aberdeen. At that time he was residing at 14 Sugar House Lane, Aberdeen. His occupation was "Iron Dresser" which involved working in a foundry cleaning cast metal and moulds.

John and Elsie had a son, Thomas, who was born in Alloa on 22 December, 1878. The couple had a second son, George, although the date and location are not known.

John died at 6, Gayfield Street, Glasgow on 13 May, 1889 at the age of 40. (Note: Gayfield Street no longer exists but was located just to the north of the city centre in the Garnethill district)
