John McNairy Robertson, Jr. son of John McNairy Robertson, Sr. was born in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee in the area near the Traveler's Rest home of his grandparents. He grew up in a large extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins. and was enumerated there as head of a household in the 1850 census. 1850 DAVIDSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, Nashville, p. 321 - ROBERTSON, John, head, age 28, single; Brown, B. age 24, single; Winham, W. His father had moved south to Shreveport, Louisiana, with younger siblings. A married sister lived in Alabama.) John married Lydia A. F. Clawson, daughter of William Russell Clawson, deceased, and Nancy Mullen Clawson. The couple lived near Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, and had three sons before his untimely death January 1, 1859. The cause of his death, was passed down orally by his sons, as "killed by a falling tree while cutting board lumber." John's widow remarried in November and had another son before the Civil War began. This spouse died in 1863 or 1864, probably in the Civil War. After they were grown, John's three sons and his spouse, Lydia (twice widowed) migrated to Texas.
