Biography

Agnes was born about 1841. But there are two records that might be her:

1. Agnes Ritchie, born 14 Dec 1841 at Edinburgh, Scotland; and

2. Agnes Ritchie, born 14 Dec 1841 at Baltimore, Ontario.

Clearly, both of those records cannot be correct! I think it most likely that she was born at Edinburgh and migrated to Canada sometime later. But it is equally possible that her parents migrated to Canada and daughter Agnes was born in Ontario. Records are poor; we are left to guess.

Agnes married John Clazie in December, 1873 at Thurlow, Ontario. The marriage certificate showed her age as 26, whereas she really appears to have been almost 32. John Clazie died from pneumonia, just age 47 in 1888.

Agnes was shown with the two youngest children in the 1891 Canada census at Scarborough, Ontario as "Clazy, Agnes". She was then shown in 1901 & 1911 censuses at Percy Township, Ontario, with the "Clazie" surname.

Agnes passed away in 1914 and was buried at Warkworth, Ontario, which is now part of the municipality of Trent Hills. ^[1]
