Converse was born in 1732. He was the son of Jacob Richardson and Elizabeth Wyman. He passed away in 1794.
Marriage:[1]
He was the town's blacksmith, his son Jeptha ran the tavern where the baptist church now stands. The blacksmith shop was on the premises.[2] As a blacksmith, he was a valuable asset to the town, he could fix weapons, make musket balls (they melted the lead from the church window weights to do that).
The tavern was the "patriot" tavern, all town members were asked to sign the "Association test" indicating their support for the revolution, which was then nailed to front door of the tavern. Four town members did not sign and were basically black balled.
Converse marched with Asa Lawrence's volunteers, Jonathan Reed's Reed-262 Regiment to reinforce General Gate's Army after the Battle of Saratoga. Had enlisted 27 Sep 1777, discharged 18 October 1777. Company was raised at Littleton and Westford. He served for a month "long enough to teach them rudimentary blacksmith skills".[3] (Page 231)
