Biography

David Redpath was born on Tuesday, June 27, 1871, in Cranston, Edinburghshire, Scotland, the first child and first son of George Redpath and Janet Forbes's five children.
David married Janet Scott(1866-), the daughter of John Scott and Barbara Muir, on Friday, December 27, 1895 at Gilmerton, Midlothian, Scotland.
David Redpath died, aged 61, on Tuesday, October 25, 1932 in Lauriston Place, Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Parish of Humbie in the County of Haddington birth register entry for David's sister, Ann Redpath records that she was born on Saturday, April 12, 1879, at Stobshiel, Parish of Humbie.
Furthermore, the entry names her father as George Redpath, a farm servant; her mother as Janet Redpath, formerly Forbes; and they married on Thursday, June 9, 1870, at Haddington. Father George Redpath reported the birth on Saturday, May 3, 1879, in Humbie.

1881 - Census: Cranston, Midlothian, Scotland. [4]
The Scottish Census enumerated David on Sunday, April 3, 1881, in the County of Edinburgh, Registration District of Cranston, Enumeration District Number 2. According to his entry on Page 11, Schedule 55 of the archive, he was at Oxenford Mains on the night of the census.
The census record contains the following information about David and the other members of the household:

  • Janet Redpath, wife, aged 41, born in Aberlady, Haddingtonshire
  • David Redpath, son, aged 9, a scholar, born in Cranston, Edinburgh

  • Margaret Redpath, daughter, aged 8, a scholar, born in Cranston, Edinburgh
  • Jessie Redpath, daughter, aged 4, born in Humbie, Haddingtonshire
  • Ann Redpath, daughter, aged 1, born in Humbie, Haddingtonshire
Oxenford Mains was part of the Civil Parish of Cranston.

1881 - Death of Mother: Ormiston, Haddingtonshire, Scotland. [7]
David's mother, Janet Forbes Redpath died on Tuesday, July 12, 1881, at Murrays, Ormiston, at the age of forty-one, according to her Parish of Ormiston in the County of Haddington death register entry.
The entry also states that she was married to farm servant George Redpath; her father was Adam Forbes, a farm servant; her mother was Margaret Forbes, formerly Anderson; she died of gangrene; her illness lasted 7 days; and her death was certified by Archibald Craig MD.
The death was reported to registrar Alexander Prosser on Tuesday, July 12, 1881, in Ormiston by widower George Redpath, who was present at the time of death.

1895 - Marriage: Gilmerton, Midlothian, Scotland. [8]
A marriage register entry for the Parish of Liberton in the County of Edinburgh tells us that on Friday, December 27, 1895, at The Manse, Gilmerton, 25-year-old bachelor David Redpath, a gardner, married 28-year-old widow Janet Duncan after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland.
The register entry also informs us that groom David lived at Gilmerton; his father was farm servant George Redpath and his mother was Janet Redpath, formerly Forbes. Furthermore, bride Janet lived at Gilmerton; her father was labourer John Scott and her mother was Barbara Scott, formerly Muir.
Minister Wh Gray Dd, performed the ceremony, witnessed by William Hush and Janet Alexander. The marriage was reported in Liberton on Saturday, December 28, 1895, to registrar James Fraser.

1932 - David's Death: Lauriston Place, Edinburgh, Scotland. [9]
David Redpath died on Tuesday, October 25, 1932, at Royal Infirmary, at the age of sixty-one, according to his District of George Square in the City of Edinburgh death register entry.
The entry also states that he was married to Janet Scott; he was a lorryman; his normal residence was 59 Drum Street, Gilmerton; his father was George Redpath (deceased), a ploughman; his mother was Janet Redpath (deceased), formerly Forbes; he died of fractured skull (motor car accident); he was seen after death; and his death was certified by Douglas Kerr MD.
The death was reported to assistant registrar G Ransom on Thursday, October 27, 1932, in Edinburgh by son George Redpath, of 48 Drum Street, Gilmerton.
Note: David's death was the subject of an RCE as a result of a Precognition.
