About the Project

The Oliver Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Oliver name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Oliver name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Oliver's), by time period (18th Century Oliver's), or by topic (Oliver DNA, Oliver Occupations, Oliver Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Hello all, I traced back to Alexander Oliver b. 1804 VA and his wife Nancy Duncan who were married in Washington county Tennessee around 1830. He is co-located with his brother or cousin Wesley Wilson Oliver who married Nancy's sister Elizabeth and both families migrated Westward during the great land rush. His origins prior to that are unknown, and I would like to connect with anybody who may have information about the Oliver's that were present in Washington County, Tenn between 1750 and 1840. I would also like to take this opportunity to implore you to take a DNA test, if you haven't already, and post to this site so that we can make proven definitive connections.

I am an Oliver. I am having trouble tracing back past Nathaniel GK Oliver. For some reason there is a Nathaniel KG Oliver too. I am finding both in the same line? Both seem

to have died at sea.

Hi Nancy, I have Olivers in Northumberland, England. If they would be of interest to your study please tell me what I need to do to include them and how I can see other participants. Regards, Lynda

My great grandmother was Jane Oliver 1855 to 1937 and her parents were both Oliver's from completely different lines. I have more Oliver's in other ancestral lines and

Family Tree Maker tells me that there are now 95 Oliver's in various branches. I have though tended to concentrate on the Oliver's of Ryton County Durham who would have been living there when faced by the 20,000 Scots Covenanter Army in 1640. That force very likely had some combatants from one of my Scottish ancestry.

For Amy Oliver

My grandfather was Stillwell Bishop Oliver (1867-1948) born in the U.S. and died in Pennsylvania. His father was David C. Oliver born in 1822. I believe there were Scottish ancestors and am searching. Do you have any of these Olivers in your branches? Many of these Olivers were born/lived in/died in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. I would appreciate any potential connections! Thank you! My mtDNA is I2. Please contact me at : [email address removed]

My grandfather is Paul Oliver. Our family lost contact with him. I do know that my dad's mom is Mildred (Barnett) Oliver and died when my dad was five years old.
