The son of Baron F Pennington and Augusta Acker (Austin) Pennington, John Pennington was born in Macon Township, Michigan[1] in 1892, residing there with his family.[2][3]
John registered for the World War I draft when he was 24, registering in Macon Township, Michigan on June 5, 1917.[4] He stated that he lived on Rural Route 3 in Clinton Township, Michigan and that he worked for himself, farming, although the draft registrar, W. C. Allen, noted on his registration that he did "...not think he is farming for himself. Does not work much at anything." John was described as a man of medium height and build, with red hair and grey eyes.
John enlisted, serving as a Private in the United States Army. He died of disease at the age of 26, and was considered a World War I combat casualty. He is believed to have passed away in France.[citation needed] John Pennington is buried, or memorialized, with his family in the Pennington family plot at Macon Cemetery in Macon Township, Michigan.[5]
