I was born in Leicester, England in 1977 where I spent the first part of my childhood before moving to Nottinghamshire. I now live in Oxfordshire.

I started researching my family tree during the first Covid lockdown and got hooked. Then after getting frustrated with the numerous incorrect trees I found on ancestry I found WikiTree. I’ve spent over 20 years working in the clinical trials industry so I’m used to wrangling large datasets and working to a high standard of evidence and accuracy (although I’m sure I make mistakes from time to time!)

My ancestors are almost all English and mostly from Nottinghamshire, Devon, London, Lancashire and Lincolnshire. As well as working on my own family tree I enjoy helping out on WikiTree more generally so I dabble in sourcing, data doctoring and connecting. I also manage a One Place Study for the village of Wheatley, Oxfordshire.

I have completed 2 free courses in genealogy & genetic genealogy from the University of Strathclyde at the FutureLearn website and would recommend these to others: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/genealogy

Hi Helen,

How WikiTree connects us. The Sarah Nutt you added in 2022 is the great great great aunt (if I've counted correctly) of Sir Michael Parkinson. Who knew he was 50% Oxfordshire?

Hi Paul, that's great! I'm happy to have facilitated the connection and wouldn't have guessed he had an Oxfordshire connection that strong.

Best wishes, Helen.

Hi Helen,

I was so surprised to see that you had so beautifully added source information for my 6th great grandfather, Slade Bowler from Swyncombe. I have family trees and extensive information in so many places it is difficult to keep up with all of them. I'm currently studying Investigative Genetic Genealogy through Ramapo College in the United States and that is tying up the majority of my free time. Thank you for providing the sourcing!

It's time for the One Place Studies Project Check-In!

We've put together a survey for you to fill out to check in with you, it will only take a moment as there are only a few questions. Filling out the survey lets us know you are still interested in coordinating your study and provides an opportunity for you to share any suggestions you may have for the project.

If you have decided to step away from your study, please reply to this comment to that effect.
