Biography
George was born 25 Jul 1800 and baptized 27 Jul 1800 North Berwick. [1] He is the son of John Nisbet and Janet Runciman. George's father died when he was 16. He was convicted in Edinburgh 6 November 1820. Left for Van Diemen's Land on 8 April 1821 on the Countess of Harcourt, sentenced to life imprisonment. Arrived 27 July 1821. Tasmanian archives database #52970 George was sent to the infamous Sarah Island as punishment for stealing a boat with intent to escape the Colony. and was 12.10.1846 given a conditional pardon which was extended 3.2.1859. [2] He died 25 Dec 1860 name spelled (Nesbit) New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia Occupation shoemaker and was buried Back River Methodist, New Norfolk
