Biography

Beatrice Mitchell was born in Worth County, Georgia on 18 April 1924. She was the sixth of 10 children born to Herman Mitchell and Pearl Johnson. Herman was a farmer who raised and delivered produce. Beatrice was 15 when Pearl became ill and passed away in 1939.^[1] Her father remarried in 1940 and moved the family to Albany, Georgia where his new wife, Gertrude operated a boarding home at 202 W Residence Ave.^[2]

Beatrice married James Edward Knight in Albany on 26 November 1943.^[3] Jimmy was an electrician and owner of J E Knight Electric.^[4] Beatrice and Jimmy had three children: Dianne Gwendolyn, Patricia Arleen and James Donald.

Jimmy passed away in 1978 when he was 57 and Beatrice 44. She continued to operate their business until retiring in 2002.^[5] Beatrice was 98 years old when she passed away on 12 April 2022. She and Jimmy are buried in Floral Memory Gardens, Albany.^[6]
