Biography

Thomas McQuown was born in 1744 in Menallen Twp., York (later Adams in 1749) Co., Pennsylvania. He was the son of Lawrence and Jean (Unknown) McQuown.

"Thomas McQuown, gentleman of Irish descent, married Mrs. Margaret (Sillik) Galloway. Margaret Sillik Galloway was the daughter of Thomas Sillik. She had previously married a Mr. Galloway by whom she had two children, John and Samuel Galloway. After Thomas died, Margaret married Mr. Forbes.

Thomas and Margaret had two children:

1. Margaret b. about 1783, m. William James Davidson;

2. James McQuown was born in Washington County, Sept. 2, 1784, and died in 1864. His father died when he was ten years of age and he was thus early thrown upon his own resource He married Sept. 29, 1805, Sarah McGaw in Washington Co., Pennsylvania. [1]

Thomas McQuown's father died in 1790 and his will mentions Thomas McQuown:

Margaret (Sillik) McQuown's father, Thomas Sillik died in 1790 and Thomas and Margaret are mentioned in his will:

Thomas McQuown died in 1794. His will was dated Oct. 7. 1794 and recorded on Dec. 20, 1795.

Margaret (Sillik) (Galloway) McQuown died Dec. 29, 1830, aged 84 years.

RESEARCH NOTES

Thomas McQuown was erroneously added to the Family of John McQuown and Susannah Condover and this mistake was corrected by the author, but the revisions to his published book were never published due to his death. The reference given as a source has extension information correcting this mistake and provides a lot more information on Thomas and his father Lawrence McQuown.
