Migration: Lachlan McDonald, with his wife Euphemia McPherson and children, emigrated from Scotland to the Colony of Victoria on the Georgiana which departed Glasgow on 13 July 1852, bound for Port Phillip. The Georgiana reached Geelong, Victoria on 16 October 1852. The family were assisted emigrants under a scheme of the Highland and Island Emigration Society.

Lachlan McDonald was joined on the voyage by his married brother, Norman McDonald and wife, Margaret Cameron. Lachlan's married sister, Christie McAlister, husband Keith McAlister, and their children, sailed as well.

Lachlan's family was number 100 in the registers of the Highland and Island Emigration Society. See ScotlandsPeople for images of original registers.

He passed away in 1903. Lachlan McDonald was buried in the Warrnambool cemetery. His gravestone shows his given name as "Lachlin", an alternative spelling he confirmed when dealing with the government Lands Department.

Estate: Lachlan in his Will, made in 1892, left his nett estate divided into equal shares to his sons, Hugh, Alexander, John the elder, John the younger, his daughters, Flora Munro and Mary Spier. A half share was left to each of the two children of Lachlan's late daughter, Margaret Page, John McDonald Page and Samuel Danes Page. Mary Spier was left a further £20.
