I went "all-in" on WikiTree in 2020. Working on a single, shared, global family tree frees me from maintaining private records, introduces me to like-minded cousins around the world and let's my family enjoy the work without saddling them with responsibility for maintaining any of it if I can't continue. My experience has been stellar for the most part.
In addition to adding and improving profiles, I am managing two One Place Studies: one for the historic neighborhood of Bonnie Doon in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; the other for a sub-set of Bonnie Doon (in place and in time) for the few blocks that contained the Dawson Huts, which were inhabited by returning WWII soldiers and their families for about 15 years. I try to connect all new profiles in these studies to the big tree, to hopefully help reduce connection counts for everyone on WikiTree.
I am also creating WikiTree Things to share information of relevance to many profiles. Some examples are: Early Reminiscences of David Graham, this 1913 letter between Mathewson cousins, this autobiography of Ella (Winkelman) Cole, and this description of the early days of the family F.A. Folkmann.
