Biography

Thomas James Matters was born 8 April 1850 and baptised on 13 June 1850 at Wesleyan-Methodist Ebenezer Chapel, Plymouth, Devon, England, United Kingdom. [1]

Thomas, aged 2, with his parents and siblings William 4, and Mary, an infant; left London 29th July 1852, on board the Sea Park. They departed Plymouth 24th August 1852, and arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 10th December 1852. Sadly, his infant sister, Mary, died on the voyage and was buried at sea. [2]

MATTERS-NOVIS.-On the 16th March, at the residence of the bride's father, by the Rev. G. W. Patchell, Thomas James, second son of the late Thomas Matters, of Bowden, Formerly of Plymouth, to Emily, second daughter of Josiah Novis, of Hindmarsh. [4]
