Tamar (Manson) Gunn was born in Scotland.

Tamar Manson was born in Beoster (Beosetter) on 17 December 1809 and was baptised in Bressay, Shetland, Scotland on 22 December 1809. She was the daughter of Magnus Manson and Jean Kirk[1] She was the second child and the eldest daughter in a family of four boys and two girls. Another sister, Mary, died in infancy.

Migration

In October 1841 Tamar emigrated to Wellington, New Zealand with her father, teenage sister, Jannet and brothers James, Magnus and Robert. Her elder brother, John, remained in the Shetlands.[2]

Marriage

On 14 March 1851 Tamar married James Gunn in Wellington. [3] [4]

Death

She died, aged 65, at the residence of her brother in Motupipi, Golden Bay on 19 January 1876.[5] [6]

Research Notes

  • Tamar had three brothers all living at Motupipi so it is not clear which one the newspaper notice referred to.
