Private Albert L. Maness joined the 8th Regiment Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry at 17 years old- April 11, 1863 and mustered out :Sept. 25, 1865 The Tenn. 8th Reg. Cav. Co. E
Albert was a Baptist Minister for a term of 3 years, until Nov 1893. And then Dec 24 1893 he married Susan Alice Manis, a 3rd Cousin. (letter attached)
Marriages
Spouse: #1- Martha Rimer- born 1836 - 1893
"5 Oct.1865, in Hancock Tenn in the home of her parents Jacob/Sarah in :Sneedville, Martha Rimer married Albert Lofton Manis who was born in TN."
This census is the last time Gramma MARTHA is found...
But Albert is listed on the 1890 census for Union Veterans as living in Pettis County, Missouri.
1883 June 6 we know Albert was at least living in Kentucky the pension card tells us this, but does not tell who he was married to, Martha or Alice?????????
ANSWER: not Alice, and Martha may have been gone???
1890 Elk Fork & Prairie Township, Pettis, Missouri[3] "United States Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War, 1890,"
It appears that Rev. Albert went to the Veterans Hospital in Pettis County MO for a sprained ankle, this being 3 years before Martha passed. (or so it is assumed, we are not sure where the 1893 date of death for her comes from?)
1893 Albert married Alice (as per 1910 census "married 15 years")
1897 Albert's son Lloyd was born in Missouri to his 2nd wife, Susan ALICE Manis-Manis.
Albert\s Obituary states, "Albert lived in Warrensburg, Missouri for 20 years." (that would be 1907--prior to that he was in Pettis County in 1890 at least.)
After Martha died 1893, Albert moved to Pettis County, Missouri, and he married his 2nd wife, and cousin Susan Alice Manis. who is the Widow who filed for pension under the 8th Tenn. [4]
It appears that Grampa Albert and Alice had 3 more children.
research further gives us the 1910 census. And the photograph of Albert-Alice-LLoyd-Beulah
OK, now I am really NOT trusting the Enumerators.........
Thank you Bonnie for letting me know that indeed they were alive/well in 1900.
I looked at the copy you e'd me and for the life of me could not figure OUT how they were spelling it THIS TIME!
finally I put "Susan A. no last name at all and went down the list........and found this:
1900 Simpson Township, Johnson, Missouri
Head of the household was,
Albert L Manep, age: 59 born Tennessee FARMER
Years Married 6 - Marriage Year (Estimated) 1894
Wife, Susan A Manep, age: 27, birth Date: Apr 1873, Kentucky, Father's Birthplace Tennessee---Mother's Birthplace Tennessee
Children 2 / Living Children 1
Loyd P Manep Son M 3 Missouri
So this says she had 2 babies BEFORE 1900, that would be Grace/Lloyd.. [7]
NOTE: not sure this is the right Albert?? he is no longer a Minister but a Cobbler? and born in KY not Tenn. and his parents? Indiana not Tennessee.???
The child's name matches the photo that the Manis Descendant placed on the f-a-g memorial "Albert-Alice-Lloyd-Beulah"
THE family portrait on f-a-g memorial Lloyd looks to be 7-8 years old and the baby "Beulah" maybe 1-2, so I believe the year it was taken circa--1905. This would be before the 1910 census when it gives :Children: 3/ 1 living .
OK, Albert OWNED the home free/clear in 1910
Address was 401 Franklin St., Warrensburg, Missouri
So we need to find his will leaving the house to
his wife Susan Alice Manis-Manis.
In 1930 she and her father, George were still living in the same house.
So matching the 1880 census (above) to the family photo we can match everyone and know that
Martha was still living ............
The 5 year old TWIN John, listed in the BIBLE is not listed but his Twin MATT is..
Eldest son James K age:13 is listed so he did not die until after the census.
