At the age of 11 months he emigrated from England to New Zealand with his parents and 6 siblings on the ship Timandra. They sailed from Plymouth on November 2nd, 1841 and arrived into New Plymouth, New Zealand on February 24th, 1842.[2]
Samuel married Ellen Henderson Scammell on 1 November 1870 at New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand. The children of Ellen and Samuel were: Robert, Robert Samuel, George Samuel, Alfred, Ambrose, George Albert, Herbert, Ellen, Clara Jane, Florence Emma, Alice, Samuel Henry, George and William.[3]
He passed away in 1927 at the age of 84.
