Biography

John was born about 1785. He passed away in 1849. [1]

John Bower Lewis was a Captain of the 88th reg light infantry and likely served in the Peninsular Wars before his regiment was sent to Canada.[2] He Married Henrietta Jones in Sorel Quebec about 1814. [a marriage record is needed], this corresponds to when his regiment was in Sorel for the battle of Plattsburgh in the American war of 1812.[3] The couple's first child, John Bower, was born in Berwick upon Tweed in Northumberland in 1817 [4] while the 88th regiment was on its way to Scotland.[3] Their second child, Robert Fredrick, was born in Edinburgh Scotland in 1818 [5] Their third child, Henryetta Susanna, was born in Lancashire in 1820 [6] just before the regiment departs for Ireland[3] Captian Lewis does not go to Ireland with the regiment but instead accepts a generous land grant in the newly planned town of Richmond Ontario Canada where he and his wife Henrietta have four more children.
