Around 1910 Richard deserted his family and went to Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada. Ida initiated divorce proceedings against Richard on the grounds of desertion after >3 years absent, filing a petition with the New South Wales Supreme Court in 1914 with a ruling of Decree Nisi handed down in March 1914 and becoming absolute (and dissolving the marriage) in August 1915.

She passed away on 15 August 1944 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Take Notice that the said IDA MARY KINGSFORD has commenced a suit against you in this Honorable Court, and is applying for a Dissolution of Marriage on the grounds of desertion for three years and upwards without just cause or excuse; and Take Notice that you are required to enter an appearance to the said suit at the proper office of this Court on or before the twentieth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, and in the event of your not doing so within the time limited, or obtaining further time, the Petitioner will proceed and the suit be heard and determined, your absence notwithstanding. DESERTED WIVES.
Decrees nisi were granted in the Sydney Divorce Court by Mr. Justice Gordon in the following petitions for dissolutions of marriage on the ground of desertion, and made returnable in six months:— Ida Mary Kingsford, formerly Laidlaw, v Richard Arthur Kingsford. The parties were married at the residence of the respondent, a banker, at the Royal Bank, Maryborough, on April 27, 1902. Evidence was given that the respondent had gone to Canada.

KINGSFORD v KINGSFORD.
Ida Mary Kingsford, formerly Laidlaw, petitioned for a dissolution of her marriage with Richard Arthur Kingsford, on the ground of desertion. The parties were married at Maryborough, Queensland, according to the rites of the Church of England, on April 27, 1892. Mr. H. G. Edwards, instructed by Messrs. Lambton and Milford, appeared for the petitioner.
A decree nisi, to be made absolute in six months, was granted.
