Robert was born in the 1960s in Queensland, Australia. He is the eldest son of Robert Gallagher, third (and last) in series lineage of this name, and patriarch of this line of the Gallagher family.

I became interested in family tree research around 2019, with Wikitree being used as the primary tool for recording the tree. In 2021 I also started duplicating the tree (incomplete) in Ancestry.com and (more limited / partially) in Geni in the hope of making contact with other surviving members of the extended Gallagher family tree. While making a limited number of contacts, this approach was relatively unsuccessful.

I have become a competent researcher and familiar with numerous online tools for researching in particular Australian and New Zealand profiles, which is where my main interests lie.

While having solved numerous mysteries and stone walls in my family tree, I have also researched and documented quite a number of trees of others with associated surnames in trying to find and resolve the answers to these mysteries.

Hi Bob,

I've been a member of Wikitree for several years but have just recently become more actively involved -- both because I've been impressed by what I've seen and learned, and also because I'm hoping it will provide a way for me to "ramp up" my own research and especially my STICKLE One Name Study. And, so even though I haven't fully "learned the ropes" I'm sending you a note because as I was poking around I noticed that you have a nice group of STICKLEs in your work. While I've been aware that the surname exists in New Zealand and Australia I haven't done much or any work to learn about when and why Stickles moved there, or where they came from. All of which leads up to asking if you have any information about the line that you might be willing to share. Anything at all would be very welcome -- and pointing me in the direction of a Stickle who might consider joining our FTDNA Surname group would be like an early Christmas. I'll stop for now and welcome any help you can give or advice you'd care to provide. As I said at the open, I'm effectively a WikiTree newbie and certainly don't want to accidentally violate any rules.

Thanks and take care!

Hi Mark,

I am not aware of origins of NZ Stickles.

However a quick google search suggests the origins of the Saxon name of Stickle from the Somerset area of UK :

https://www.houseofnames.com/amp/stickle-family-crest

Ancestry alternatively suggests it as a derivative of German surname;

https://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=stickle

Looking at modern distribution of those bearing the name, most live in USA/Canada, with highest density in Scotland;

https://forebears.io/surnames/stickle

I don’t know much about NZ Stickles other than the Wikitree research that started with Captain Thomas Stickle :

A granddaughter went to US and married there :

Hi Bob..

I noticed you are profile manager for a number of Queensland Broadfoot profiles. Dallas Hayden (wife of Bill)'s maiden name was Dallas Elspeth Rose Broadfoot. Her profile is currently closed Dallas (Broadfoot) Hayden but if you have information to help connect her to the global tree, you could be added to the Trusted List.

I have been unable to identify her parents at this stage, but she appears to have grown up in the Ipswich area, her father was a coal miner (but I don't know his first name).

Thanks, Scott

Her brother was killed in WW2 at El Alamein 12 July 1942.

Thanks Bob.

We found that very helpful Roll of Honour newspaper entry late last night too. I think we (the Australian #Notables team on Discord) worked out that Dallas' parents were Bill and Vera. Bill's parents were Walter and Essie (Miller). Walter and Essie had eight children that I identified from Qld BMD and that 1942 newspaper excerpt. William (1915) was third, John David (1916) was fourth.

Do you know how to connect them to "your" Broadfoots or the Global Tree? At the moment, I'm just gradually enlarging an unconnected branch.

Thanks, Scott

Hello Bob,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
