Biography

He was born on 04 May 1837 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland [1] and was the son of Jean (McNee) and Peter Jenkins [2]

His family emigrated on the ship "Calphurnia" arriving on 29 Mar 1852 in Victoria, Australia. [3]

John Jenkins married in 1857 in New Zealand to Mary Ann Holland. [4]

He died on 20 October 1919 in Caversham, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand [5] and was buried at Northern Cemetery, in Dunedin City, Otago, New Zealand. [6]

Research notes

John's birthplace of Perthshire, Scotland are shown on the 1841 census, his 1852 emigration record into Australia and his death certificate. However his son's affidavit on his probate record states he was born Glasgow. Baptism is in Glasgow.
