Funeral notice: "THE friends of the late Mr ROBERT JENKINS, of the Royal Hotel, Glenorchy, are respectively invited to follow his remains to the Glenorchy Cemetery, on FRIDAY, the 15th instant, at 12 o'clock noon. HENRY CROUCH, Undertaker" ^[4]

Newspaper report: ""Another old identity of the district has passed away, in the person of Mr Jenkins, of Glenorchy, at the ripe age of sixty-seven. Mr Jenkins was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and arrived at Glenorchy fully thirty years ago, when the place might justly be termed a wilderness. He there established a public-house, and in the olden times, in order to direct travellers thereto, the deceased gentleman ran a plough furrow at each side for a distance of twelve miles; and also, for the benefit of those who might be bushed, used to fire off a gun every night at eleven o'clock. Mr Jenkins was one of the earliest settlers in the district, and was universally respected."
