Joseph Howarth was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England.

Joseph was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England, on September 7, 1884.^[1] He was the son of Joseph Howarth and Elizabeth Kay. He was baptized on October 19, 1884, at Deane St Mary.^[2] He was enumerated in the 1891^[3] and 1901 census ^[4] living with his family at 79 Marland Hill Lane, Bolton. In 1901, he was one of ten children living at home. he was sixteen, single, and "Working at Bleach Works".

Joseph married Sarah Sharples in 1906.^[5] The marriage was registered in the fourth quarter in Bolton. The couple had at least one child, Joseph Herbert, about 1908. Joseph, Sarah, and son Joseph appeared in the 1911 census ^[6] living in Little Bolton. His occupation "Iron Moulder Laborer".

Joseph passed away in 1925. His death was registered in the second quarter in Bolton.^[7]
