Peter Hope was born in County Durham, England.

Peter Manners Hope of Fatfield was born on 18 August 1809 and was the second son of Robert Tate Hope and Mary Manners.^[1]

Peter married Jane Oliver on 31 August 1839 in Bishopwearmouth and they had eight children.^[2]

On the 1841 census, Peter, a coal miner, and Jane are living in Kelloe, Coxhoe and Cassop, with their daughter, Alice, aged 1 year. Another daughter, Mary, would be born that year but she died in infancy.^[3]

On the 1851 census, Peter, a coal miner, and Jane are living in the village of East Hetton with their children: Alice (11 years), Robert (8 years), Mary (6 years), Thomas (3 years) and John (1 year).^[4]

On the 1861 census, Peter, a coal miner, and Jane are living at Cassop Colliery, Cassop, with their children: Robert (18 years), Mary Jane (16 years), Thomas (13 years) and Matthew (5 years). Their eldest daughter, Alice, and her husband, William, are boarding with them along with their young daughter, Jane, aged 4 years.^[5]

Peter Manners Hope died, aged 55 years, in 1864.^[6]
