He was living in Ballynacross at the time of the 1901 Census, aged 60. He was living with his daughter Margaret Hipson (27) who was a seamstress and his grandson Thomas aged 5.[1]
His death in 1906 was registered by Nancy Grey which may explain the slight discrepancy in age given as 70. He was a widower and a labourer. He died of pneumonia.[2]
Research Notes
I believe his first wife Sally Bell Elliott died potentially in 1870, aged 30.
He may have remarried to Matilda Crockett/Elliott 26th August 1871. On the marriage registration her name is given as Matilda Crocket spinster, of Ballinacross but the fathers name is Eliza Elliott. And her new husband is John Hipson a widower, of Slatybogie father John.[3]
If so she doesn’t appear on the 1901 Census but there is a death of a Matilda Hipson of Gulladuff, married aged 60 in Magherafelt Workhouse.[4]
