Isobell Hendryson, baptized: 11 Feb 1700 parents: George Hendryson/Priscilla Spence in Dunbar Parish^[1].

Isobell was baptized at the same time as her twin sister Jennet

Marriage

Isobell married Robert Gilar (aka Guylar or Guillar) on 2 August 1720, when she was aged 20 years, in the Parish of Spott^[2]. They were recorded as "both in this parioch".

Children

The baptism of five children of Isobell and Robert are recorded in the baptismal resisters of the Church of Scotland in Spott and Innerwick Parishes in Haddingtonshire between 1720 and 1745. Their last two children are presumed to be twins and their parents were recorded as "in Dunbar". The father's surname is given variously as Guylar, Gaylor, and Guillar:

1. Andrew baptized: 6 Jan 1723 Parents: Robert Guylar and Isobell Henry. Parish: Spott OPR 720/ 10 115. Their residence is given as "The Lochs" which is conjectured to be the area surrounding Black Loch, Dry Loch and Bell Craig Loch (see Research Notes below) approximately one mile south of Spott village, located around British National Grid NT 66546 73539 and shown on Ordnance Survey Six-inch to the mile map sheet Haddingtonshire, Sheet 11 (published 1855)^[3]
2. Robert baptized: 8 May 1726 Parents: Robert Gaylor and Isobell Hendrie. Parish: Innerwick OPR 711/ 20 347. The parents were recorded as residing in Spott Mill (half a mile west of "The Lochs"). The baptism took place in Innerwick parish because the minister's position in the kirk in Spott parish was vacant.
3. Elisabeth baptized: 27 Oct 1728 Parents: Robert Guillar and Isobell Henry. Parish: Spott OPR 720/ 10 131
4. Agnes baptized: 12 Sep 1731 Parents: Robert Guylar and Isobell Henry. Parish: Spott OPR 720/ 10 139

The Old Statistical Account of Spott Parish by Rev. Mr John Martin in 1793 records:

"The Edges of Lammermuir are beautifully skirted with natural wood, the property of Mrs. Hamilton of Belhaven, consisting chiefly of oak and hazel. There is a range of 4 beautiful small lochs in her property; in one of which, called the Black Loch, are excellent pike. The farm of Spott, formerly let to three, is now in lease to one farmer. New houses are intended to be built by Mr Hay of Spot, in place of old ones now in runs, and others are to be repaired."^[4]
