John was the son of John Hamilton of Grange, and his wife, Elizabeth Crawford[1] served heir to his father on 31 January 1677 [G. Harvey Johnston, FSA (Scot). Laird of Grange. Heir to his father, 1677, acquired part of lands of Stevenston-Campbell, 1685; subsequently barony of Stevenston-Cuninghame from Earl of Glencairn (renamed mansion house, Grange)"[2]
He married Rebecca Cunninghame, daughter of Alexander Cunninghame of Craigends.[1] They had issue:
John died in Mar 1695{[4] and his testament recorded in Glasgow on 31 Jul 1700.
Executed for treason.
