Biography

Richard was born in 1804. He passed away in 1884. He is buried at Corston, near Bath, Somerset, England.

He attended school at St Peter's College, Westminster and matriculated from Christ Church College Oxford in 1822.

There was at one time a brass plaque in the cathedral at Landaff commemorating his life and is still (2019) a plaque and memorial window commemorating his generosity in the All Saints Church, Corston Somerset, where he and his second wife are buried.

In 1840, at the time of the birth of his son Alfred [Hall-36230], he was living in Guernsey, Channel Islands.

In 1848 he was serving as a land tax commissioner for the County of Somerset and appears to have spent most of his adult life living there in Bath (19 Grosvenor Pl. 1851 and the Macaulay Buildings) and in the villages of Corston and later Freshford 1881, where he lived in Freshford House, High Street, Freshford, Somerset. According to the census of that year, he lived there with his wife, Frances, and two of her nieces and four servants, a footman, cook and two housemaids. His income was from land holdings.

He is buried in Grave A.8.10 in the Churchyard of All Saints Church, Corston, Somerset ( 51°23'9.34"N 2°26'23.27"W) where there is also a brass memorial plaque and stained glass window dedicate to his memory.

His estate was worth ₤7 753. (2020 equivalent is ₤970 000. https://www.in2013dollars.com/uk/inflation/1884?amount=7753)
