The fact that William and Margaret Haley have not been found at this time on an NC record doesn't mean they were not there. It only means that they didn't own land while they were there. William Haley, who can definitely be linked to a current line to today, has his first verifiable record in Franklin County, Georgia. As his ancestors would like to know the truth about William's ancestry this is an important place to note. On the Franklin County, Georgia tax list of 1800, page 33 is listed William and James Hailey. While I have not followed this up myself, popular thought has it that this is the same James R Haley who is said to have been born in Virginia in 1765 and was buried in the Haley family cemetery off hwy. 106 in Franklin County, Georgia. From: "Michael Hailey" <hailey-m@mssu.edu To: <haley@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 6:38 PM Subject: [HALEY] Margaret & William Bad information is hard to correct but will try again. Relatives & Friends Recently I have sent emails that put in question some of the assumptions concerning the Haley line that originates with the William Haley said to have been at Valley Forge. An email asked, ‘Now that you put this in question where does that leave us?’ A fair question but not one that I had an answer for at that moment. I have since gone back over my notes and checked against info that I found on the internet and I feel that I have a better idea of where that research may find the truth. Beginning with what is known. I have seen copies of documents that verify that there was a William Haley at Valley Forge. As Valley Forge is only a short distance from Philadelphia, I believe it is only logical to assume that the William Haley at Valley Forge was the William Haley who married Margaret Connor on April 13, 1778. (He a soldier of the Virginia Line, and she of that Commonwealth, at Valley Forge, William Rogers, minister) This record is from the records of the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia.
