Alexanderina Gunn (or Mackay), daughter of Alexander Gunn and Annie Mackay, was born about 1826 and was baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 4 February 1827.[1] The manner in which her baptism is recorded with two surnames implies that Alexanderina's birth was illegitimate.
According to some parish record transcripts, the place of residence of Alexanderina Gunn at the time of her baptism (or the place of residence of at least one of her parents) was Catchery in the parish of Watten.[2] Living in Catchery during the first half of the 1800s were the Gunn family and the Mackay family. It is reasonable to assume that both Alexander Gunn and Ann Mackay were related to these families. Further evidence (or DNA autosomal connections?) will be needed to formally connect these individuals together.
