Biography

Bertha (Gipson) Williams is a part of US Black heritage.

Bertha was born in 1929. She was the daughter of Frederick Gipson and Annie Champion. In the 1930 census Bertha (age 0) was the daughter of Fred Gibson at 4-14- South Gifford Road-Spaurse Park, Quay, Indian River, Florida, United States.^[1] In the 1935 census Bertha (age 5) was the daughter of Fred Gibson in Precinct 4, Indian River.^[2] In the 1950 census Bertha (age 21) was the never married daughter of Fred Gibson in Gifford, Indian River, Florida, United States.^[3]

Bertha (age 20), daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Fred D Gipson, married Ivey Leonard Williams on 2 December 1950 in Indian River, Florida, United States.^[4][5]

In later life, Mrs. Williams was the "church mother" at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Spillway, Florida. She was also member of the mission's board and was active with the Parents Involved in Education Community (PIE). She owned Williams Nursery and ran her own daycare business. Mr. Williams died in 2005.

Mrs. Bertha Lee Williams died on 30 May 2006.^[6] Funeral services were Monday, 5 June 2006, at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.^[7] She was buried that day in Gifford Cemetery, Vero Beach, Indian River County, Florida, United States.^[8]
