Biography

Stephen was born in 1668 "according to his tombstone record" and is the son of Benoni Gardiner and Mary Eldred Gardiner. He married Amie Sherman in 1700. They had twelve children and they are as follows:

  1. Amey Gardiner, born June 13, 1701, and married, possibly, January 28 (23?), 1719-20, Peter Boss. There were three children, the names of whom cannot be deciphered from the North Kingstown records. Possibly one of them was Susannali (Sarah?), who married, in 1742, George Gardiner.
  2. Lydia Gardiner, born October 10, 1702, and married John Jenkins.
  3. Stephen Gardiner, born February 24, 1704, and married Frances Congdon, a daughter of Benjamin.
  4. Benjamin Gardiner, born April 18, 1706.
  5. Peregrine Gardiner, born January 24, 1707, and married Susannah Robinson, a daughter of John and Mary (Hazard) Robinson.
  6. Daniel Gardiner, born December 14, 1709, and married Bathsheba Smith.
  7. Sarah Gardiner, born October 25, 1711, and married Samuel Davis.
  8. Hannah Gardiner, born May 2, 1713, and married Samuel Rogers.
  9. Mehitable Gardiner, born May 22, 1715, and married John Congdon, Jr.
  10. Abigail Gardiner, born July 9, 1717, and married Richard Smith, in 1744.
  11. David G Gardiner, born June 28, 1720, and married Jemima Gtistin.
  12. Jonathan Gardiner, born April 18, 1724, and married Mary Haughlon. He married, second, Abiah Fitch.

  2. Unsourced family tree handed down to Arielle Crawley.
  • The Gardiners of Narrangansett page 11 and 12 shows Benjamin and Hannah Mowry, of Kingstown as parents of Amey who Stephen Gardiner married in 1700. Also notes that a list of children was from an old paper, evidently the return of the administrator of his estate, and is recorded in Norwich Connecticut. Also that there is no record of the birth of his children in South Kingstown, possibly from the fact that the records of the Friends were lost when their meeting house was burned in 1742.

Gardiner-2749 and Gardiner-40 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, dates, wife and daughter

Now that Gardner (Gardiner-40) has the correct father, I think the merge of Gardiner-2749 into Gardiner-40 should be done.

Benoni (Benony) Gardner Gardiner-1394 has the wrong parents. This Benoni shoud be sourced to the Gardiners of Narrangansett reference GN 2 and his father George GN 1 as shown on George Gardiner-38 in Wiki. I am inclined to think that Herodius Long as shown in in GN and Long-161 Wiki is Benoni's mother.

Unfortunately two different profiles. Gardiner-38 and the one Newell-916 set up that is noted as unsourced Gardiner-2183. Hopefully this will be reviewed. thanks all

Gardner-4912 and Gardiner-40 are not ready to be merged because: There is not enough information to confirm these are the same person. Gardner-4912 has no birth date, death date, parents' names, spouse's name, etc. Also, the childrens' names do not match. What evidence do we have that these are the same person?
