Biography
Othniel, son of Benoni Gardner and Elisabeth Hall, was born on 24 June 1742 in Exeter, Kings County, Rhode Island.[1]
Othniel (age 21) married Lydia Reynolds (age 17) on 6 August 1764.[2]
He died on 19 December 1777 in Petersburg, Rensselaer County, New York, United States.[2]
Othniel was buried in Reynolds Cemetery, Petersburg, Rensselaer County, New York, United States.[2]

Spelling of first name
His first name has been alternately spelled as Othniel[3] and Othaniel[1]
Birth year
His birth year has been alternately recorded as 1742[1][3] and 1752.[4] I believe the 1752 date is a transcription error.
Father of Jesse Gardner?
Robinson (1919) lists seven children of Othniel and Lydia (Reynolds) Gardner, but Jesse does not appear on this list.[3] Robinson states that Othniel "died, leaving six small children."[3]
