Regarding the 2 conflicting marriage records for Elizabeth Gardiner on 20 November 1765. The first one showing the marriage to David Moore was in the published record of 1893. A search of Ancestry's database finds no records of children or deaths of a family of David Moore married to Elizabeth Gardiner. The 1896 record which shows the marriage to David Gardner was published in 1896. Obviously, the publisher discovered the omission made in 1893 and published the correct record in the 1896 version.( However, the Moore record remained in the printing)
Two surnames for Elizabeth (ca. 1751–1794),[4] wife of David Gardner (1741–1813) of Pownal, Vermont,[5] have been proposed.
Some propose a maiden name of Albro. As far as I can tell, this is based on nothing more than a North Kingstown, Rhode Island, marriage record for a David Gardner, son of Benjamin, and an Elizabeth Albro, dated 26 January 1794.[6] But this date is obviously far too late for this Elizabeth to be the mother of the children born in Pownal, Vermont, through the 1770s and 1780s. Absent any additional evidence, we must reject the Albro name on this basis.
If we discount the marriage date of 1/26/1794 was to a different David Gardner, it is still possible that this David Gardner married an Albro. The Gardner Cem., North Pownal Memorial 43640465 h/s shows a Mrs Elizabeth as the wife of this David Gardner. As of 2/11/2021 the heading is no longer Elizabeth Albro. The death date on h/s is 4/28/1794 and ae 43. She has the same type of headstone as her husband David. The marriage date at the Findagrave site as of 2/11/2021 is now 1765 to further negate that she was an Albro married at age 13. Fortunately the Findagrave manager is now accepting messages.
The other proposed origin for Elizabeth is that she too was a Gardner. Robinson’s The Gardiners of Narragansett, 24,[7] shows this David Gardner marrying an Elizabeth Gardner on 20 November 1765, a claim apparently based on Arnold’s Rhode Island Vital Extracts, 1636–1850, 8:465,[8] an extract of the records of the Second Congregational Church of Newport, Rhode Island. But examination of the original document from which it was taken shows this extract to be in error. Newport, Rhode Island, Records of Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1670–1774, FHL film no. 941,999[9] (digital image no. 160, accessible from a family history center), shows that this Elizabeth Gardner was married on the date and in the place in question not to a David Gardiner but to a David Moore. (This name was correctly extracted by Arnold on 4:31.[10]) Moreover, no David Gardners appear among the marriages in this collection before 1800.
We must therefore conclude that the maiden name and parentage of Mrs. Elizabeth Gardner of Pownal remains unknown and that her marriage to David is unrecorded.
Unfortunately there is a 3rd entry showing an Elizabeth Gardner marrying David Moore also on 11/20/1765.
GN414 in error as this Eliz did not mar Benj Champlin but Eliz GN641 of Nicholas m. Benj Champlin same date of 2/8/1763.
Since some of these Gardner familes removed to Pownal, Vermont I will be attaching her to David.

I thought I had some Albro and Thurston folks identified, but they seem to have been blocked/rejected.
Thus I added the following for the disputed wife: If we discount the marriage date of 1/26/1794 was to a different David Gardner, it is still possible that this David Gardner married an Albro. The Gardner Cem., North Pownal Memorial 43640465 head stone shows a Mrs Elizabeth as the wife of this David Gardner. The heading is Elizabeth Albro. The death date on h/s is 4/28/1794 and ae 43. She has the same type of headstone as her husband David. There is no marriage date at the Findagrave site so it is still possible she was his wife. Unfortunately an inquiry to the Findagrave manager is not possible as he is not accepting messages. Since a Kevin Gardner who I found very meticulous in building his ancestry has accepted an Elizabeth Gardner as David's wife, I will let the last name stand until I am able to go to a LDS family center and review those documents.
