DAVID DUNN, who was Mayor of Oamaru for five years, from 1888 to 1893, was born at Kilsyth, near Glasgow, in 1840. He has been an Otago settler since early in 1863 and has long been in business as a butcher in Oamaru. Besides his services to the ratepayers of the borough, he has occupied the position of vice-chairman of the Harbour Board, and has been a member of the Waitaki High Schools Board.[1]
David married Sarah Hewtson in 1868 in New Zealand.[2]
In 1896 and 1911, David was a butcher, living on Tees Street, Oamaru, registered to vote in New Zealand.[3][4]
David died on 31 March 1921[5] and was buried in Ōamaru Old Cemetery, Ōamaru, Waitaki District, Otago, New Zealand.[6]

Mr David Dunn died at his residence Gasa Nova on the 31st, aged 81. He came from Kilsyth, and landed m Otago in 1863. He worked at his trade as a bootmaker at Balclutha for some years, and came to Oamaru in the early ’eighties and went into the butchering line. He was Mayor of Oamaru for several years and member of other prominent local bodies, and always used to stir up things a bit. He was more than once a candidate for Parliament, and gave his opponents a close run. His wife died a few years back.
