Residence

We find Roderick, on the night of the Census Record of 1851, living with parents Peter (Drysdale) and Mary (Ferguson) and siblings Henry and Alexander (Drysdale) in the Hamlet of Claylands, west of the Village of Kippen, in the Parish of Kippen, Stirlingshire, Scotland[3]. By the Census of 1861, he is out working for Farmer of 74 acres, William (Paterson); his wife, Ann (MacLaren); their two children Janet and John (Paterson); Ploughman, Peter (McGregor) and Domestic Servants, Jane (Spittal) and Isabella (Jack). They are located at Kippen Road North, in the Hamlet of Bridge of Frew, northeast of the Village of Kippen, in the Parish of Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland[4].

In 1871, we find Roderick lodging with Police Constable, Duncan (Martin); his wife Mary (Martin); their children Jane, Mary, Isabella, Duncan and Jessie (Martin) and fellow Lodger, Daniel (McMillan). They live at 5 Houldsworth Street, in the City of Glasgow, District of Anderston, Parish of Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom[5]. The Census of 1881 reveals that Roderick (Drysdale) has married Helen (Mennie) and they live with children Betsy Gordon, James and Helen Deans (Drysdale) at Bridge End Street, in the Market Town of Callander, District of Callander, in Perthshire, Scotlalnd[6].

In 1891, the couple are living with children James, Helen Deans and Christina Ferguson (Drysdale) in a Private House, in the Town of Callander, Parish of Callander, in Perthshire, Scotland[7]. Unfortunately, the Census of 1901 brings with it bad news in that Roderick has lost his wife Helen (Mennie) and is living as a widower with his daughter Helen Deans (Drysdale) and grandson Roderick (Buchanan). They reside at 18 Main Street, in the Town of Callander, District of Callander, Perthshire, Scotland[8]. In 1911, he is living with his grandson Roderick (Buchanan/Drysdale) in the Town of Callander, Parish of Callander, in Perthshire, Scotland[9].

Occupation

The Census of 1861 records Roderick's occupation as being that of a Ploughman. However, by 1871, he is working as a Joiner and he becomes a Joiner (Journeyman), employed as such for the rest of his working life.

Death

Roderick (Drysdale) passes away on the 7 April 1926 at 3.10 pm at 83 Duke Street, in the port Town of Leith (south), near the City of Edinburgh, District of Leith South, in Midlothian Scotland. He was 78 years old at the time and the cause of death was Cardiac Failure and Senile Decay[10].
