Biography

Richard was the son of John Drummong and Patience Hill. In 1688, his maternal grandfather wrote a will leaving a bequest to Richard.

Richard was marrried twice, his first wife was Elizabeth Scarburgh, daughter of Col. Charles Scarburgh and Elizabeth Bennett. Elizabeth died bef. August 6, 1701 at approximately 30 years of age. Although she was not named in either her father's or mother's will, her son Scarborough Drummond was named as a grandson in her mother's will of June 2, 1719.

Richard's second wife was Ann Tilney whom he married abt. 1690. Ann was born abt. 1650 and was the daughter of Col. john Tilney and Anne Smith. Ann died in 1736 at the age of 85.

Richard was named in his grandfather, Richard Drummond’s will dated March 26, 1688.

He made a will dated february 24, 1719/20 in Hunting creek, Accomack County, Virginia. The will states: "To my son Scarborough Drummond two good beds & furniture fit for them one to have curtains & vallians the other not. I also give my son Scarburgh twenty shillings. To my son Richard Drummond II my plantation I now live on including the half of HALF MOON ISLAND with appurtances thereunto belonging to him & his heirs forever.I also Give my son Richard four Negros (viz) Summers Dick Hagar & Stepney and only the first child that the Negro hagar shall bring tha shall live to the age of two years old. To my grandson Richard Drummond to him and his heirs lawfully begotten of his body & my will is that if my grandson should dye without such issue as aforesaid, that then I give the said child to my son Richard.I also give to my son Richard my still & all the apurtenances thereunto belonging...To my granddaughter Elizabeth Drummond.... ”My will is that my wife should enjoy all my personal estate and at her decease to dispose of the same as she shall think fit to my two daughters Mary Ayrs and Patience Drumond.”
